Victor, Caroline and Freya camping in 2003

The prefix Capanash was registered in 2003. The name comes from the first letters in my name (CAroline PAtricia ANne SHarpe). We have bred 3 Australian Champion(CH Capanash The Dark Side, CH Capanash Vision In White & CH Capanash Dark Illusion) under the Capanash prefix. We have also shown 2 standard poodles (CH Marlau Lucindas Princess & CH Danrith Man In Black)to their Australian Champion titles under other breeders prefixs. We currently have 5 standard poodles, which all live and sleep in the house with us.

My name is Caroline Sharpe. I live in Melbourne, Australia. I just completed a Bachelor of Biological Science. I do part-time dog grooming in between grooming my own dogs for shows.

My life with standard poodles began in February 2000, when we bought our first standard poodle "Victor" from Marlau Kennels. He was the most adorable little thing as a baby and he has grown up to be about 30 inches at the shoulder. Victor is a real clown and has an amazing out-going personality, everyone who meets him either wants a poodle just like him or wants to take him home!

In November 2000 we decided that "Victor" needed a friend so we went back to Marlau Kennels to get him a little sister. We came home with our little cream girl "Freya". For the first 2 years or her life she was a pet in 'Lamb Clip' and then one day we were stopped in the street by a guy who used to handle his parents home bred poodles. He asked us why we had her in pet clip and told us to try conformation showing with her because she was very nice. After that we asked a few people who were showing standard poodles at the time and they said to go ahead and try conformation showing. And so began our poodle showing!

A friend of ours set up the continental show clip on "Freya" and I began doing all the show grooming for her. We started off with a few open shows. In the first 3 open shows we entered, Freya won a Best in Group and 2 intermediates in group. After that we were hooked on showing. In 2002, she was the best Intermediate in the Poodle Club of Victoria members competition series. "Freya's" first championship show was in October 2002 when she had just turned 2 years old. She gained her Australian Champion Title in August 2003. Our first show dog titled in 10 months of showing!

In 2003 we enquired about getting a dog to show from Dawn Bennett of Danrith Poodles in Queensland. She had a 1 year old dog "Kort" that had been shown as a puppy but his showing stopped due to Dawn's commitments with her German Import. So a couple of weeks later "Kort" caught a plane down to Melbourne.  "Kort" had been clipped off short so we had to grow his coat out. We began showing him at the end of August 2003 and he easily gained his Australian Champion Title in February 2004.

In March 2004 we had our first litter of 9 puppies. Two puppies were kept by us and are currently being shown in the conformation ring, one of which gained her Champion title at 12 months and 13 days old (the minimum age for a title is 12 months), the other titled a couple of months later.

In July 2005 we had our second litter which produced our beautiful black boy "Vegas" CH Capanash Dark Illusion. He gained his title at 12.5 months with multiple In Group and In Show awards along the way!
